Cops to get tough with drunk drivers

The police are to get tough with drunk drivers from today, police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said.

He said that yesterday two accidents had been reported in which three people were killed and several injured and in both accidents the drivers were drunk.

The police also said that there has been a rise in reports of bus and lorry drivers being behind the wheel while being drunk.

As a result the police will launch operations from today to nab drunk drivers from around the country.

Ajith Rohana said that while most drivers are drunk at night there have been instances where the drivers are drunk even at day time.

As a result the operations to nab drunk drivers will be carried out 24 hours of the day. (Colombo Gazette)

UN backs decision to censor parts of Sri Lanka report

The United Nations has stood by a decision to censor parts of the internal review report on Sri Lanka, saying it was done to protect the names of some UN staff and also strictly confidential documents.
