Blake to discuss LLRC action plan

US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Robert Blake, who will be in Sri Lanka next week, is to discuss the progress on the implementation of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission Action Plan.

The State Department said that during his visit to Sri Lanka from September 12 to 14 Blake will also hold a roundtable discussion with civil society representatives.

He will also meet with the Minister of External Affairs GL Peiris and other senior Sri Lankan officials to discuss a wide range of issues

Blake is traveling to Kathmandu, Nepal, from September 10 to 11; Male, Maldives, on September 12; and Colombo, Sri Lanka, from September 12 to 14, 2012.

In Male, Assistant Secretary Blake will meet with President Mohamed Waheed, other Maldives officials, and with former President Mohamed Nasheed.

He will express U.S. support for all Maldivian parties charting a way forward that respects Maldivian democratic institutions, the rule of law, and the will of the Maldivian people.

Assistant Secretary Blake will also hold a roundtable with civil society leaders and give a press conference at the American Corner facility in Male.

Deadly wasp attack in Norwood

One person was killed and four others were injured following a wasp attack in Norwood today. The police said that the wasps attacked five people including 3 women working at an estate in the area. All those who were injured in the attack were rushed to hospital, the police said. However one man had succumbed to his injuries on admission to hospital. The victim was was said to be a 65 year old man. The police are investigating the incident. (Colombo Gazette)

Visa fraudster arrested

A Sri Lankan visa applicant was arrested today for using deception and a false identity to apply for a UK visa. He was referred by UK Visas and Immigration to the Fraud Investigation Bureau police in Colombo.?The visa applicant was applying to visit the UK.
