Massive python found in Matale

A massive python was found in Matale near the Ukuwela Power Station, wildlife department officials said today.

The python, which is 22 feet long and weighs around 122 kilos was believed to have been the longest python found in Sri Lanka in recent times.

Wildlife officials captured the snake and released it to the Elahera, Giritale forest reserve, officials said.

The snake had not harmed anyone and may have come to the power station from a nearby forest area.

Suspects arrested over Easter Sunday attacks further remanded

A group of suspects arrested over the Easter Sunday attacks have been further remanded. The 12 suspects were produced before the Kalmunai Magistrates Court today. The Magistrate ordered that the 12 suspects be further remanded for 14 days. The 12 suspects were arrested in parts of the East following the Easter Sunday attacks last April. The case is to be heard again on 7th January.

Import levy on potatoes reduced

The Government has decided to reduce the import levy on potatoes from midnight tonight (25th) The Finance Ministry said that the import levy on potatoes has been reduced from Rs. 50 to Rs. 25 per kilogram. The cost of living sub-committee had decided on the price reduction at talks held with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
