CEB strike ends, Minister meets Chinese envoy

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) trade unions have decided to call off their strike following a meeting with the management this evening.
The management of the CEB has discussions with the trade unions in an attempt to diffuse the crisis resulting from a strike over salary anomalies.
CEB Chairman Professor Wimaladharma Abeywickreme told the Colombo Gazette that they also had talks with the labor department.
The CEB says a?committee?has been appointed to look into 5 of 12 demands put forward by the trade unions.
All employees on strike were earlier told to report to work by noon tomorrow or ?alternate measures? will be taken.
The CEB was also preparing to recruit temporary staff to fill the void created by the strike in the event a solution is not met.
Meanwhile Power and Energy Minister Champika Ranawaka met the Chinese Ambassador in Colombo this evening, Chinese embassy sources told the Colombo Gazette.
The meeting comes amidst criticism over the Chinese company involved in the Norochcholai coal power plant.
Sri Lanka was facing a power crisis as a result of the breakdown at the Norochcholai coal power plant and the strike by the CEB employees.
