The department of meteorology has warned of strong winds in some areas today together with heavy rain.
In a weather forecast issued early this morning the department of meteorology said that there will be showers in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle, Matara and Kurunegala districts.
It said that monsoonal winds may strengthen (up to 60 km/hr) at times particularly in Western slopes of Central hills.
Meanwhile in its sea area forecast the department of meteorology said that winds will be from South-westerly direction and speed will be 30-40 km/hr.
The speed may increase up to 50-60 km/hr at times in the Gulf of Mannar sea area and sea areas off North-eastern, Eastern and South-Eastern coasts.
The Gulf of Mannar sea area and sea areas off the North-eastern, Eastern and South-Eastern coasts will be rough at times.
