Police spokesman, 21 others promoted

Police spokesman Ajith Rohana and 21 other police officers have been promoted to the rank of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) from the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP).

The promotions were announced by the police media unit today saying it was based on the recommendations of the Public Service Commission.

Among those promoted to SSP from the SP rank are officers from the Presidential division, media division, state intelligence service, CID, CCD, TID and others.

While some, including the police spokesman, have been promoted with effect from June the others have been promoted with effect from last month.

Sri Lanka targeting USD 1 billion for foreign reserves

Sri Lanka is targeting USD 1 billion as foreign reserves to help stabilise the Sri Lanka Rupee. Finance Minister Ali Sabry said that the Government is negotiating with a number of countries to secure a total of USD 1 billion to give the Sri Lanka Central Bank as foreign reserves. Funeral wreaths and white flags placed outside Temple Trees

Funeral wreaths and white flags were placed outside Temple Trees today to remember the victim of the shooting incident in Rambukkana. Protesters staged a funeral march from Galle Face to Temple Trees and gathered outside the gates of the official residence of the Prime Minister. The protesters placed the wreaths and white flags with red stains on the barricades outside Temple Trees and on a part of the wall. A small Police presence was seen outside the gate and the whole event was peaceful.
