Power cuts are back

The Power and Energy Ministry announced that power cuts will be imposed tomorrow (Thursday) in several towns including Colombo as a result of the breakdown at the Norochcholai coal power plant and insufficient rain at the catchment areas.

A statement late this evening by the Power and Energy Ministry said that power cuts for 2 hours and 15 minutes will be imposed in 58 towns tomorrow during the day time.

The power cuts have been scheduled for various times in each town, the Ministry said. The announcement of the power cuts comes after the Ministry said this morning that there was another breakdown at Norachcholai resulting in the national grid losing 300mw of power.

It was only recently that the government was compelled to impose power cuts following a breakdown at Norochholai and at the Kerawalapitiya power plants.

However both were rectified and the government resumed the normal distribution of electricity.
