U.S urges full implementation of action plan

The United States (U.S) has called for the full implementation of the National Action Plan on the implementation of recommendations made by the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC).

A statement by the U.S Embassy in Colombo said that the full implementation of the National Action Plan will benefit all citizens of Sri Lanka by furthering long-term reconciliation and lasting peace.

“The United States welcomes the release of the National Action Plan by the Government of Sri Lanka.  We have long encouraged the full implementation of the recommendations outlined by the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission.  We believe that full implementation of the National Action Plan will benefit all citizens of Sri Lanka by furthering long-term reconciliation and lasting peace,” a short statement by the U.S Embassy in Colombo said.

The Cabinet had recently approved the National Action Plan which lists out the implementation of the recommendations in the LLRC according to Activity, Key Responsible Agency, Key Performance Indicator and a Timeframe.

The action plan covers International Humanitarian Issues, Human Rights, Land Return and Resettlement, Restitution/ Compensatory Relief and Reconciliation.

The Plan was drafted by a committee headed by the Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga who was appointed by the Cabinet to oversee the implementation of the LLRC recommendations.
