MR confirms North polls in 2013

President Mahinda Rajapaksa today confirmed that provincial council elections for the northern province will be held in September next year.
He said this during a breakfast meeting with newspaper Editors at Temple Trees today, the President’s spokesman Bandula Jayasekera said.
The President had earlier this month told The Hindu newspaper of his desire to hold elections in the north in September 2013.
However he said there were some outstanding issues which need to be resolved before elections can be held in teh area.
Among the issues, the President said, was the electoral list with several people displaced by the 30 year war still returning to Jaffna.
