House owned by Mannar judge attacked

A house owned by the Mannar Magistrate Anthony Pillai Judeson came under attack late last night by an unidentified gang.

The house located at Sebastiar Street in Mannar has been given out on rent by the Magistrate, our correspondent in the area said.

Stones were thrown at the house by the gang resulting in minor damages to the property while a vehicle parked in the premises was also damaged.

A police investigation into the incident is underway.

Meanwhile the police and Special Task Force (STF) are providing security to the house where the Mannar Magistrate is currently residing.

The Magistrate is residing close to the Mannar District secretariat office. Security has been provided to his house following an incident recently when Muslims had protested against an order he had given in support of some Tamil fishermen.

It was later reported that Minister Rishad Bathiudeen had threatened the Magistrate and asked him to change his ruling.

The Minister has however denied the claims.
