Police warn guest house owners

The police have warned they will take stern action on guest house owners who directly or indirectly facilitate child abuse.
According to the police most underage girls have been abused or raped in guest houses or lodges around the country.
The police media unit said legal action will be taken against guest house owners, the management and staff if they are found to have facilitated the abuse of children.
A circular has been dispatched to police stations in the country regarding this by IGP N.K. Illangakoon, the police media unit added.
The police said that if a boy brings an underage girl to a guest house or lodge asking for a room the owners should not provide rooms.
Guest house owners have been advised to check the identity cards of young girls who seek a room for the night with a boy.
They have also been told to contact the nearest police station if there is suspicion on the couple.
