Uthayan Editor grilled by CID

The Editor of the Jaffna based Uthayan newspaper was questioned by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over a news report regarding army commander Jagath Jayasuriya, the newspaper said today.

CID officers from Colombo had visited the Jaffan newspaper office yesterday and taken the Editor to the Jaffna police station and questioned him for some three hours.

The Tamil newspaper said that its Editor was quizzed by two CID officers regarding the news item which appeared in the newspaper on the 11th of this month.

A complaint over the news item had been lodged by the army commander resulting in the CID investigations.

The CID has later informed the newspaper Editor that legal steps will be sought on the next course of action.
