SLMC to contest with the UPFA

The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) has decided to contest the upcoming Provincial Council Elections for three provinces with the ruling UPFA, the government information department said today.

The decision was taken by the SLMC High Command which met last evening, the information department said adding that the party will contest in all three provinces including the Eastern Province with the UPFA.

Earlier the SLMC raised doubts in contesting with the UPFA unless the government assured the Eastern Province Chief Ministerial post to the SLMC if the UPFA won the polls in the East.

Over 150 animals freed

The police raided an illegal slaughter house in Orugodawatte and freed over 150 animals, the police media unit said today. On information received by the police a team was sent to the location yesterday where they found the animals being kept in poor conditions. The police said that the animals were being prepared for slaughter or were to be sold for a high price to customers. Jaffna troops further reduced

The army says more troops have been pulled out from parts of Jaffna and transferred to the Palaly Cantonment. Army spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya said that a decision was taken to move troops from 13 small military camps located in the Walikamam sector in Jaffna District to the Palaly Cantonment.
