Soldier remanded for molesting a child

A soldier attached to the Ambepussa army camp has been remanded over allegations he molested a 6 year old child.

The soldier, identified as Athula Kumara, had molested the child near her home in the Kotawehera area last morning.

Following a police complaint over the incident the soldier was arrested and produced in court today and remanded by the judge.

Investigations had revealed that the soldier had molested another girl in 2010 and there was also a pending case against him at another court.

An investigation is underway on the directions of the senior police DIG of the Wayamba province Asoka Wijeytillake.

USNS Brunswick arrives in Colombo on a formal visit

United States Naval Ship (USNS) Brunswick arrived at the port of Colombo on a formal visit. The 103m ? long Spearhead-Class Expeditionary Fast Transport vessel is manned by a crew of 24 and is commanded by Captain Andrew H Peretti.
