The External Affairs Ministry said that Sri Lanka air force personnel will continue to receive training in India despite objections raised by political groups in southern Tamil Nadu.
In an urgent statement the External Affairs Ministry said that reports about a group of Sri Lankan Airmen under training in Chennai being sent back to Sri Lanka is incorrect.
“They will continue their training in another location in India without any hindrance to their training programme,” the External Affairs Ministry said.
The Indian media had earlier reported that following pressure from politicians in Tamil Nadu, the Indian defence ministry decided to send back Sri Lankan air force personnel who were undergoing training at the Tambaram airbase in Chennai, India.
“All Sri Lankan trainees are being sent off today from this station as per instruction of the ministry of defence,” a brief Indian defence ministry statement said on Friday.
