Fonseka says Praba died in combat

LTTE leader Velupillai Prabakaran died while fighting during the last stages of the war and his body was found by the army later, former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka said.

Fonseka, in an interview with the Ananda Vikatan magazine in Tamil Nadu, also said that the body of Prabakaran’s youngest son was not found as the war drew to a close with the death of the LTTE leader.

He said that at the end of the final battle the military only recovered the bodies of Prabakaran and his eldest son and no one else from his family.

Fonseka also said that the bodies of some child soldiers and other rebel fighters were also recovered and most of them had committed suicide by swallowing cyanide.

He also insisted that the body believed to be that of Prabakaran found at the end of the war was indeed that of Prabakaran and no one else.

The former Army Commander also said that none of the LTTE cadres surrendered with white flags in their hands and even if they did then the army was told to accept them.
