Trade unions attached to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) have threatened to go on strike in the event the government fails to address some of their issues.
CEB Trade Union member Ranjan Jayalal said that the government must address the salary anomalies issue of the CEB staff without further delay.
The CEB staff took to the streets today and protested outside the CEB head office demanding the attention of the Power and Energy Ministry, Finance Ministry and CEB management on the issue.
Jayalal also said that the government has begun to suppress some of the staff through the management for taking part in protests.
He warned that an island-wide strike will be launched if the government continues to act in this manner.
