JVP to protest in Colombo

The JVP is to stage a massive protest in Colombo on Tuesday against the shooting incident in Hambantota yesterday.

JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva said that the protest has been organized to vent anger towards the government over the incident in which two people were killed and three others injured.

Silva said that the government was responsible for the incident and dismissed attempts to blame a dissident JVP group.

He said that the dissidents do not have enough members and supporters to carry out such an attack and that an underworld figure in Hambantota with links to the government was involved.

Unidentified gunmen on motorbikes carried out the shooting targeting a JVP rally in Hambantota last evening.

Silva said that the JVP will take the issue internationally as well and he also said the Marxist party does not have faith on the police investigations.
