Over 70 injured in wasp attack

Over 70 people including several school children were injured following a wasp attack in Kekirawa this morning.

The police said that three monks were also among those injured when the wasps attacked those at a Buddhist center (Pirivena) in Kekirawaa.

All those who were injured were admitted to the Dambulla hospital for treatment.

The Dambulla hospital said that over 72 people had been brought in by this afternoon for treatment.

The police said that a wasp hive on a tree next to the Buddhist center had been disturbed by an eagle resulting in the wasps attacking those below.
