An earth tremor was felt in several parts of the country just after 9pm this evening, the Dissater Management Center said.
DMC spokesman W.A.Sarath Lal Kumara told the Colombo Gazette that the tremor was felt in Colombo and as far as Jaffna and it was also registered at the Palakalle seismology station.
“We got calls even from places like Nuwera Eliya saying they felt a slight earth tremor. It was felt in almost the entire island,” Sarath Lal Kumara said.
He however said there was nothing to worry so the public did not have to panic or evacuate for any reason.
The Dissater Management Cente was trying to verify the source of the tremor.
The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) said that tremor felt in almost the entire island had registered between 3-3.5 on the richter scale.
