Lankans displaced in Italy

Around 25 Sri Lankans have been displaced due to the Earthquake that struck parts of Italy with a magnitude of 6.0 on the Richter scale on May 20, 2012, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Italy said.

The Embassy said that the displaced Sri Lankans have been provided with the necessary facilities.

The Embassy is in constant touch with the Sri Lankan community in the affected areas and the Civil Protection Agency of Italy to render any assistance, if required.

It was one of the strongest quakes to shake the region, seismologists said, and initial television footage indicated that older buildings had suffered damage: roofs collapsed, church towers showed cracks and the bricks of some stone walls tumbled into the street.
