Fonseka arrives at Supreme Court

Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka left the Nawaloka hospital a short while ago and arrived at the Supreme Court.

He was escorted outside the hospital into a prison van by prison guards amidst a large gathering of Fonseka’s supporters and the media.

Fonseka’s family members and several UNP members including UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa and MP Karu Jayasuriya were also present in hospital.

He was then taken to the Supreme Court where two motions were filed by his lawyers this morning, including one on the ‘white flag’ case.

Fonseka was pardoned by President Mahinda Rajapaksa over the weekend and he is expected to be officially freed today.

UPDATE:  The Supreme Court has allowed the withdrawal of two pending appeals by Sarath Fonseka’s counsel.
