Cabinet approves Fonseka’s release

Cabinet has approved the release of former Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka.

Presidential Spokesman Bandula Jayasekera said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa has obtained the approval of the cabinet to free Fonseka.

Last night the President had met Fonseka’s wife Anoma Fonseka and MP Tiran Alles to discuss some details regarding the release of Sarath Fonseka.

Alles met the President last morning as well and he later met Fonseka at the Nawaloka hospital where he is receiving treatment.

Alles later told the media that there are some outstanding issues which need to be sorted regarding Fonseka’s release.

“Once those minor issues are sorted I’m confident we will be able to secure General Fonseka’s release soon,” Alles said. (Colombo Gazette)
