EU envoy backs resolution

The EU Ambassador to Colombo Bernard Savage told reporters today that the EU decision to back a resolution on Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council in March was not a hostile act.

The UN Human Rights Council had called on Sri Lanka to implement the recommendations of the Lessons Learned and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC).

Meanwhile a visiting parliamentary delegation from the European Union (EU) today called on the government to implement a political solution as soon as possible.

Head of the delegation Jean Lambert told reporters at the conclusion of the visit to Sri Lanka that overall they were happy with the post war developments in the country.

However she said there were still some issues which need to be addressed including the failure to implement a political solution.

She also said that her delegation was surprised that the final report of the LLRC was only in English.

The LLRC was appointed by the Sri Lankan government to look at some allegations and concerns raised on the war between the army and the LTTE.

Mervyn?s son Malaka attacked
