Free Fonseka “unconditionally”

The United National Party (UNP) today called for the unconditional release of former Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka.

UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa, addressing the R. Premadasa commemorative event in Colombo, said that terrorism was defeated as a result of the leadership given to the military by Fonseka in 2009.

Sarath Fonseka’s wife Anoma Fonseka was among the guests at the commemorative event while several UNP members and supporters also attended.

Speaking here further Premadasa also said that while the UNP welcomes the defeat of terrorism, the country was yet to experience the true fruits of peace.

He said that real peace can be achieved only after a political solution is given to the people in the North and East of the country.

Premadasa also called on UNP stalwarts including the “Wickremesinghes” to join hands for the ultimate goal of establishing a UNP government. (Colombo Gazette)
