In a statement released this evening, the police also requested assistance from Hirunika Premachanda and a weekend newspaper which had initially reported the alleged threat to her life.
Hirunika Premachanda, daughter of slain politician Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, had on April 23 lodged a complaint with the police stating that a weekend newspaper had reported there was a threat to her life.
On the instructions of IGP N.K. Illangakoon an investigation was launched into the claims, the police said in the statement today.
The police said that subsequently a statement was recorded from Hirunika Premachanda on April 28 regarding the alleged death threat.
A statement was also to be recorded from the Editor of the weekend newspaper and the journalist who wrote the story but they had said they will obtain legal advice and give a statement tomorrow.
The police denied claims it was not investigating the complaint lodged by Hirunika Premachanda regarding the alleged threats on her life. (Colombo Gazette)
