Protest over mass arrest

A protest was staged along Baseline road this evening against a mass arrest of suspected criminals in the Borella area today.

The police said that during a special operation at least 28 suspects were arrested over their involvement in criminal activities.

Commandos of the police Special Task Force (STF) carried out the sudden raid this morning.

Angered by the arrest, several people took to the streets near the railway grounds on Baseline Road last evening and staged a protest by burning tyres and disrupting traffic.

The protestors were demanding the release of the suspects who had been arrested saying they were arrested based on false allegations.

The police later used teargas and water cannons to disperse the protestors.
