Strong winds expected later today

The Department of Meteorology has warned that strong winds may be experienced in most parts of the country today.

It said that the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) (Northern and Southern hemispheric winds convergence Zone) is currently over Sri Lanka.

As a result showers or thundershowers will develop over most parts of the island particularly during the afternoon and night.

There may be temporary localized fairly strong winds during thundershowers.

The general public have also been advised to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.

Last morning the Department of Meteorology issued a bad weather warning saying showers with lightning activities can be expected in the Northern and Eastern parts of the country.
