Underage girls abused, videoed

Two underage girls have been sexually abused and videoed in Piliyandala, the police media unit said today.

According to the police the girls aged 9 and 10 had been sexually abused near the Bolgoda lake last morning.

Following a police complaint over the incident the police arrested a suspect and will produce him in court today.

The police said they had also found pornographic videos in the possession of the suspect who were arrested over the incident.

A mobile phone which was also recovered had images of the two young girls.

The two girls have been admitted to the Kalubowila hospital for a medical examination.

The Piliyandala police are conducting further investigations. (Colombo Gazette)

President gives go ahead for controversial Neluwa – Lankagama road

Sun directly over Sri Lanka till 7th September

The sun will be directly over Sri Lanka till 7th September, the Department of Meteorology said. The Department of Meteorology said that on the apparent southward relative motion of the sun, it will be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka from 28th of August to 07th of September. The nearest towns of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead tomorrow (30) are Talvupadu, Mannar, Mundumurippu and Tennamaravadi at about 12.10 noon. (Colombo Gazette)
