Ashanthi wins Best Pop Act award

Sri Lankan songstress Ashanthi de Alwis has won the Best Pop Act award at the Bite My Music Global awards, the organizers said on their website.

Ashanthi beat Chris Schermer from Austria, Worren Webbe from India, Feritta from Australia, Allegro Fudge from India and Stars and rabbit from Indonesia for the prestigious award.

Bite My Music Global awards is the World’s biggest independent music awards and is also known as the World Cup of Independent Music.

In all there were three sub-awards this year – The IndieGo Music awards for south asia countries, VIMA 2011 ( Singapore, Malaysia & Brunei) and also the Global African Asian music awards (GAMA).

Top winners of these awards entered the main Bite My Music global awards to compete with the rest of the Asian countries and wildcard entries from Europe and the US.

The judging and online voting for the global awards began on Feb 29th 2012 and ran for 2 weeks.

According to the organizers of the awards, 30% of the scores were from online voting while 70% came from global judges and celebrities.

The Bite My Music Global Awards is supported by Danie Cortese Entertainment and more than 20 other media partners from around the world. (Colombo Gazette)
