Evacuations underway as aftershock rocks Lanka

Mass scale evacuations were underway in almost all coastal areas of Sri Lanka including in Colombo as a result of an earthquake and aftershock in the Sumatra seas.

Residents in Colombo including Bambalapitiya, Wellawatte and Fort were evacuated by the police.

Hotel along the coast in the South were evacuated as well.

The initial earthquake in Sumatra resulted in a tremor being felt in most parts of Sri Lanka. The aftershock was also felt in Sri Lanka with buildings also shaking in some areas.
