Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena has issued instructions to conduct raids on pharmacies operating without air-conditioning units, the Health Ministry said.
A Health Ministry spokesman said that the Minister has made it mandatory for pharmacies to operate with air-conditions especially since there is a heat wave in the country.
The Health Ministry warned that without air-conditions most drugs may lose its coloring, effectiveness and quality as a result of the extreme heat.
The spokesman said that the drugs which lose its quality and effectiveness can have side-effects on patients.
