Will not surrender says Sri Lanka

The government says it will continue to maintain Sri Lanka’s sovereignty and not surrender to any type of foreign interference.

Foreign Secretary Karunatilleke Amunugama told state radio today that Sri Lanka’s ties with India has not been affected by India’s decision to support a resolution on Sri Lanka adopted at the UN Human Rights Council recently.

He said that Sri Lanka will continue with its non aligned foreign policy but will also work in corporation with other UN member states.

The Foreign Secretary also said that Sri Lanka’s Foreign Service is being modernized on the instructions of President Mahinda Rajapakse.

The External Affairs Ministry has also begun a program to brief foreign governments on LTTE activities in European countries.

Amunugama said that the government has taken measures to establish good governance and to act with transparency.

He also said that terrorism can be thwarted only through the unity of all parties.
