Samarasinghe returns from Geneva

The head of the Sri Lankan delegation attending the UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva, Minister Mahinda Samarasignhe, returned to the island today, the government said.

The reason for Minister Samarasinghe’s return was not mentioned but it was reported elsewhere that he was back on a short break and will go back to Geneva next week.

Speaking to reporters at the airport on his return Minister Samarasinghe said that he was confident Sri Lanka will be able to counter moves against the country at the ongoing UNHRC session.

The US is expected to produce a resolution against Sri Lanka at the session but Minister Samarasinghe said Sri Lanka has already garnered the support of several countries against the resolution.
