Mahela retained as captain for Asia cup

Sri Lankan cricket selectors have retained Mahela Jayawardena as captain for the Asia Cup which will be held in Bangladesh later this month.

Jayawardena was selected just as Sri Lanka knocked out India to enter the final of the Commonwealth Bank One Day series against Australia on Sunday.

Mahela Jayawardena was named as captain for the Australia series replacing T.M Dilshan after the Sri Lankan team suffered a string of losses under Dilshan.

Selectors also decided to continue with Angelo Mathews as Vice Captain for the tournament in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka Cricket said.

Opener Upul Tharanga, who was dropped from the last few games of the tri-series in Australia owing to poor form, has also been included in the Asia Cup squad.

India, Pakistan and hosts Bangladesh are the other teams taking part in the Asia Cup cricket tournament.
