Several schools to remain closed for O/L paper evaluation

Several schools are to remain closed even after the new school term begins next month as they will be used to mark?GCE O/L exam papers. The Examinations Department said that 68 schools will remain closed till January 16. Most schools will re-open for the new term on January 2 next year.

Lankans housed in a camp in Tiruchi observe fast

Eleven Sri Lankan Tamils housed in a?Special Camp in Tiruchi, India resorted to a relay fast yesterday (Friday) demanding their release, The Hindu newspaper reported. The Lankan Tamils resorted to this step in the morning. They have been lodged in the camp since a case had been booked against them by the Q Branch CID police in Nagercoil for allegedly trying to illegally ferry Sri Lankan Tamils to Australia, police sources said. Some of them had attempted to escape on the ferry.

ISIS recruit was in Sri Lanka on missionary work

An ISIS recruit arrested in India had visited Sri Lanka?allegedly on missionary work, the Times of India reported. Abid Khan, a 23-year-old Abid Khan resident of Bengaluru, lived in a church in Banjar town in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh for the last six months before he was arrested in a joint operation of the NIA and Kullu Police.
