Sri Lanka’s ace fast bowler Lasith Malinger failed to gather the ball to run-out Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni in last over of the tri-series match in Adelaide today and the end result saw Dhoni help India tie the match off the last ball of the game.
Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka had set India a 237-run target to win the match after winning the toss and bating first.
The Sri Lanka top order failed with the bat with openers Upul Tharanga falling for a duck and former captain T.M Dilshan making just 16 runs.
However Dinesh Chandimal with 81 runs off 91 balls and captain Mahela Jayawardene 43 from 49 balls saw the Sri Lankans reach 236 runs.
In reply India led by Gautham Gambhir who scored 91 and captain Dhoni who ended on 58 not out, tied the match with Dhoni scoring 3 runs from the last ball.
In that same over which was bowled by Lasith Malinga, Dhoni was well short of the crease as he scampered through for a single after hitting the ball towards Mahela Jayawardena.
Jayawardena threw the ball back at Malinga with Dhoni short of the crease but Malinga failed to hold on to the simple return and Dhoni managed to make his ground.
As a result of the tied game Sri Lanka however posted its first points (2) in the series.
India had made two changes to the side that beat Australia in their previous match. They have left out opener Virender Sehwag, who has back spasm, to include veteran Sachin Tendulkar.
