Expressway speed limit to go up

The speed limit on the southern expressway is likely to be increased from 100 kmph to 120 kmph following a request made by government parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa.

State media quoted Rajapaksa, son of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, as saying that increasing the speed limit will benefit all those who use the expressway.

He also requested the authorities to issue a day pass to daily travellers on the Southern Expressway, observing that a large number of people, including politicians and businessmen, were using the expressway daily.

Rajapaksa also said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa will lay the foundation stone for the construction of the outer circular road of Colombo within the next few days, adding that the Colombo – Kandy Expressway would be constructed through Kurunegala.

Two policemen injured after being shot at in Katana

Two policemen were injured after being shot at in Katana, the police media unit said. A?suspect had used the gun of a policemen and opened fire on them when they attempted to arrest two suspects. The injured policemen were admitted to the Negombo hospital for treatment.
