Moody praises Mahela’s appointment

Former Sri Lankan cricket coach Tom Moody has praised the appointment of Mahela Jayawardena as captain.

Mahela replaced T.M. Dilshan as captain of the team selected for the tri-series in Australia after Sri Lanka suffered a string of defeats under Dilshan.

Speaking during commentary for the tri-series one-day international between Sri Lanka and India on Wednesday, Moody said Mahela was intelligent and was the best choice for captain.

Moody also said that Mahela would be able to guide the younger players in the team including vice captain Angelo Mathews.

Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shasthri, who was also commentating in the match, agreed with Moody and said that Mahela was the best choice to pull the team out of its current poor form.

The match on Wednesday between Sri Lanka and India was Mahela’s first since being re-appointed as captain.
