Now a Sri Lankan born British singer, Arjun Coomaraswamy has released an English remix of the track in London and it has topped 2 million hits on YouTube.
The English version of ‘Kolaveri di’ has been named ‘How Could you do this to me’ and it has become one of the most viewed songs by an independent South Asian artiste.
Arjun was in Sri Lanka for Christmas to promote his music.
He recently performed a live acoustic version of the track on BBC Radio1 hosted by another British with Sri Lankan roots, DJ Nihal.
Before the success of this video, he has slowly been building a fan base in the UK with live radio & TV interviews and performances at festivals, his management company told The Hub.
He has also made it into the second round of a popular MTV competition for unsigned artistes.
In the UK his songs have received airplay on stations including BBC Radio 1, 1xtra and Asian Network.
His videos have been aired extensively on UK Sky channels such as Kiss TV, Flava and Channel AKA, as well as a plethora of Asian channels across the world, including MTV India, B4U and Zee TV.
These videos have simultaneously racked up hundreds of thousands of view on YouTube, resulting in a sizeable online following.
Arjun studied Music Production and Sound Engineering at Point Blank Music College in London. He has produced music for numerous artists around the world, including the internationally acclaimed Hindi album by Shivali, ‘The Bhajan Project’ (released by Sony India).
The album went on to reach #10 in iTunes World Music Chart, and has been nominated for ‘Best Fusion Album‘ and ‘Best Debut‘ at the GIMA 2011 (Global Indian Music Awards).
