Sri Lanka Promotes Tourism Offering in Beijing

Sri Lanka opened a three-city tourism promotion programme in China with a roadshow in Beijing on 18 September, bringing Sri Lankan travel businesses together with Chinese tourism representatives.

The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau organised the event with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Beijing. Twenty Sri Lankan destination management companies and hotels joined SriLankan Airlines at the programme.

The event attracted 146 Chinese travel agencies, tour operators, meetings and events businesses and media representatives, according to the Foreign Ministry.

Presentations highlighted Sri Lanka’s heritage, beaches, forests, mountains and eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Business meetings gave Sri Lankan participants an opportunity to discuss travel products and potential partnerships with Chinese companies.

The roadshow sought to strengthen commercial links by providing Chinese tourism businesses with information about Sri Lankan destinations and direct access to local suppliers.

Participating hotels and destination management companies presented their offerings to businesses involved in organising outbound travel from China. SriLankan Airlines also took part in the programme, placing air travel alongside accommodation and destination services.

Beijing was the first stop in the wider promotional series. The programme forms part of Sri Lanka’s efforts to engage travel businesses in China and encourage the development of holiday packages featuring the island.
