China to Support Sri Lanka’s Agricultural Revitalisation

A high-level discussion on strengthening Sri Lanka’s agriculture sector and addressing related environmental challenges was held yesterday (22) at the Presidential Secretariat, under the patronage of Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.
The meeting was convened in line with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Enhancing China–Sri Lanka Agricultural Productivity and focused on jointly implementing programmes aimed at resolving key challenges while improving overall agricultural output, according to the President’s Media Division (PMD).
Discussions also explored the use of Chinese technology and tools to tackle agricultural constraints and mitigate environmental concerns. Special attention was given to measures to reduce crop damage caused by wild animals, as well as potential Chinese assistance for the cleaning and restoration of Beira Lake.
Participants included Senior Lecturer Vishvajith Kandegama from the Faculty of Agriculture and Plantation Management at Wayamba University of Sri Lanka; Professor Zhang Guozhu of Guizhou University; Cao Xuan and Wei Ping from the Department of Commerce and Management of Hubei Province; along with other officials and representatives.
