Apple Commits Support for Flood and Storm Recovery in Sri Lanka and Other Asian Nations

Apple has announced plans to contribute to relief and reconstruction initiatives in countries across Asia, including Sri Lanka, recently impacted by severe flooding, landslides, and high winds.

CEO Tim Cook highlighted the widespread damage caused by the storms in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka, extending solidarity to the affected communities.

Recent reports indicate that heavy rainfall across the region has claimed over 1,300 lives and disrupted the lives of millions. In response, Apple has pledged financial assistance to aid recovery and rebuilding, though the specific amount has not been disclosed.

In addition to its direct support, Apple encourages employee participation through its Employee Giving program, which has mobilized over US$880 million to date by matching contributions from staff to support communities in need.

CPC ups fuel prices

The state-owned Ceylon Petroleum Corporation has raised the price of fuel with effect from today. The price of 90-octane petrol, 95-octane petrol and Super Diesel has been increased by Rs. 3 while Auto Diesel price has been increased by Rs.6 per liter, the CPC said. Accordingly, the price of a liter of 90-octane will be Rs. 162 and 95-octane Rs.170. A liter of Diesel will cost Rs.121 and Super Diesel Rs. 145 from today. Three killed in Veyangoda accident

Three people were killed last night following an accident in Veyangoda, the police said this morning. The police media unit said that a motorbike and a car, both traveling in opposite directions, were involved in the accident. All three victims were on the motorbike and had suffered serious injuries. They died on admission to hospital, the police media unit said. ?The victims were aged 21, 21 and 18 and are residents of Veyangoda. The driver of the car has been arrested. ?(Colombo Gazette)
