Former MP Nimal Lanza arrested over alleged assault in 2006

The Police said that Lanza surrendered to the Kochchikade Police Station over the incident.

He was produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court and was ordered to be remanded until 12 September.

Lanza was accused of carrying out the assault during a protest in 2006.

Lanza told reporters outside court that the arrest was political revenge taken by the current Government.

Nimal Lanza was a controversial figure during the Mahinda Rajapaksa regime.

Apartment in Colpetty raided, 100kg of heroin seized
