Sri Lanka prepares to face impact of Middle East war

Sri Lanka is preparing to face the impact of the war in the Middle East and a subcommittee appointed for this purposes met to discuss the areas that might be affected.

The Cabinet of Ministers has drawn its attention to the need for advance preparation regarding challenges that Sri Lanka may encounter in the future due to the ongoing military situation in the Middle East, the Government said on Wednesday.

Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers had decided to appoint a cabinet subcommittee and another committee to assist the cabinet subcommittee, comprising of secretaries to the ministries, to submit appropriate recommendations.

The committee has been tasked to closely study the situation in the Middle East and look at the extent of the impact it will have on Sri Lanka and review the urgent actions that should be taken in this regard.

The Cabinet subcommittee is headed by Vijitha Herath: The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism and includes Samantha Vidyarathne: The Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure Facilities, Wasantha Samarasinghe: The Minister of Trade. Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development and Kumara Jayakody (Engineer): Minister of Power.
