Rehan Jayawickreme announced his return to party politics to support candidates of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) contesting the upcoming Local Government elections.
Jayawickreme said that he decided to backtrack on his decision to stay away from party politics.
“The candidates from Weligama who had previously worked with me asked for my support during their campaign?just as they had stood by me through multiple campaigns of mine. I couldn?t turn my back on them,” he said on X.
Jayawickreme said that he had informed the party that he will not be contesting, but when SJB leader Sajith Premadasa and General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara requested him to take on the role of Weligama Organizer and oversee the electorate for the upcoming local government elections, he accepted.
“This was not an easy decision for me. I was focused on other things and had even pledged to step away from party politics. But at the heart of it all, I knew I couldn?t abandon those who stood by me when it mattered most,” he said.
