Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is ready to vacate the house given by the Government in Colombo, if asked to do so in writing, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam said.

He said that while the Government has been saying in public that Rajapaksa must leave the house, nothing has been communicated in writing.

Kariyawasam said that if the Government formally informs Rajapaksa in writing to leave the house in Colombo, he will leave.

The MP said that instead of fulfilling the mandate given by the people, the new Government is using the house given to Rajapaksa in Colombo as a slogan.

He said the Government is trying to force Rajapaksa to leave on his own free will and later blame him if anything happens to hgis security.

President Anura Kumara Disanayake had recently said that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa will be ordered to pay Rs 4.6M rent for the Government house he is occupying in Colombo or vacate the premises.

Disanayake said the decision was taken after a valuation was carried out on the property. (Colombo Gazette)
