US hands over Beechcraft King Air aircraft to Sri Lanka

The United States handed over a Beechcraft King Air aircraft to Sri Lanka, Thursday, in the presence of Admiral Steve Koehler, a 4-star US Navy Admiral and Commander of US Pacific Fleet.
The US Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Julie Chung said that handing over the King Air aircraft represents the US-Sri Lanka partnership as they tackle maritime challenges together, enhancing their collective efforts for regional stability in the Indo-Pacific.
She said the United States recognizes Sri Lanka?s leadership in the Indian Ocean region and is committed to supporting a strong and sovereign Sri Lanka.
“It is my hope that this aircraft will serve as a constant guardian of your nation?s peace and prosperity, always vigilant in defending what is rightfully yours while protecting your waters and skies,” she added.
The Ambassador noted that the oceans play a crucial role in Sri Lanka?s economic growth, but is also vulnerable to various threats.
Illegal fishing, smuggling, human trafficking, and other deceptive activities pose significant challenges to maritime security,” she added.
The Ambassador said that with the handover of the King Air aircraft, Sri Lanka is better equipped to monitor and combat these threats, ensuring the safety of its waters and the prosperity that comes with secure trade routes. (Colombo Gazette)
