Champika Ranawaka splits from SJB and bows out of polls

Patali Champika Ranawaka announced he and his party have split from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and will not be cointesting the Parliament elections.

Ranawaka accused the SJB of violating an agreement reached with his party, the United Public Front, over the nominations for the Parliament election.

He said there was an agreement on the number of candidates the United Public Front can nominate at the polls through the SJB.

However, he alleged the SJB violated the agreement and so his party withdrew from the alliance.

Ranawaka, a former Cabinet Minister, said that his party will decide the next course of action in the days ahead. (Colombo Gazette)
