AB de Villiers says comment on Sri Lanka was misunderstood

Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers says a comment he made about Sri Lanka a few years ago had been misunderstood and added that he loves to travel to Sri Lanka.

In a video posted on his social media, AB de Villiers said that a comment he made stating it was “off season in Sri Lanka”, was taken out of context.

AB de Villiers said that he made the comment about 5-6 years ago and it was not intended to discredit Sri Lanka as a country or the Sri Lanka cricket team.

While wishing the current team on beating New Zealand in the recent Test series, AB de Villiers said that he had utmost respect for the Sri Lanka cricket team, especially during his time when players like Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardena and Muttiah Muralitharan were in the team.

The former South African cricketer also said that he loves the Sri Lankan people, the beaches and the Ministry of Crab restaurant in Colombo. (Colombo Gazette)

Keshap confirmed as US envoy to Sri Lanka
